Jazz great Freddie Hubbard died early this morning at age 70. He had been gravely ill for a minute so this isn't a total shock, but this does not diminish the sadness of it all. Still, his music lives on below is a video of him playing one of my favorite jazz songs, "Body and Soul"

True sadness. One of the greats indeed. :(

The news crushed me man. I mean... I knew he as sick but I wasn't ready. Freddie is like that trumpet immortal... you know? I was up in the wee hours of the night playing his music. I want to write about what he means to me but it's still too raw right now.

Have you heard him play "Here's that Rainy Day" on flugelhorn? It's from the Straight Life recording...

I listened to that Straight Life cd earlier this morning man. Now I've moved on to the "New Colors" cd. It'll be a Freddie Hubbard kind of day today
